Evansville’s "African American Museum" wants to raise more than a $1 million and they’ve got some help.

Friday night, actor Ron Glass was named the new National Campaign Chairperson for the project. He’ll spearhead the effort to raise $1.5 million to furnish the museum at the corner of Lincoln and Garvin and pay for staffing for the museum for three years.

Glass is a famous Evansville native who was on the syndicated tv shows "Barney Miller" and "The Odd Couple" He says, "Evansville and the surrounding areas will be able to celebrate their diversity, and also each individual will be able to come to appreciate and really understand and respect each other."

The fundraising effort will begin full-force within the coming weeks.
