"Serenity" Movie Sequel : "I Will Never Stop Believing"

There’s been a lot of talk in the last day or two about the comments made by Joss Whedon on the fan site Whedonesque.com. In his comments, he refutes speculation that a plan is in the works currently to make a sequel to Serenity. Many are taking this to mean there will never be a sequel. This would be heartbreaking, if true.

I however, choose to believe. I will never stop believing in the power of browncoats to do the impossible. I will never stop believing that we will one day see our Big Damn Heroes fly again. I will never stop believing that this movie, these characters, this incredible television show that changed my life forever, will one day rise again.

    I think it’s funny how much everyone flipped out. NOTHING has changed. Joss always said it’s not on his plate to make a sequel to Serenity. If the idea comes out of him in the future and he’s interested in pursuing it... he will. But just like 2 months ago, there is no sequel in the works. Like you said, there’s always the possibility of the future, but I can’t believe people took his words as "I’m not doing it...ever." The words were more or less "I’d be interested if a studio seemed to be banging my door down to do it. They’re not interested in the moment, so I’m not going to work on it."
