The new film Serenity is penned from the creative - and often droll - wit of Joss Whedon: the world’s very first third-generation television script writer.

His father Tom wrote for the Electric Company in the 1970s and the Golden Girls in the 80s, and his grandfather John wrote for the Dick Van Dyke Show and The Donna Reed Show during the 50s.

And Joss Whedon is of course the creator of one of the world’s most famous cult heroines, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, a phenomenon which mixed the ’forces of darkness’ with the everyday world of modern mall America.

It’s even given serious academic attention at some of the world’s best universities.

But, as if the success of Buffy wasn’t enough, Joss Whedon can also lay claim to writing for Roseanne Barr, the films Toy Story, Speed, and another television series called Firefly, which became the launch pad for the new film Serenity, which will be released later this month.

Joss joined Fran in the studio this morning.
