Serenity - Rated PG-13

Joss Whedon directs this feature-film version of his cult sci-fi TV series Firefly, following a rebel fighter (Nathan Fillion) who captains a ship of eccentric outlaws. Despite the occasional nosedive into incomprehensibility, Serenity boasts deft comedy and a swashbuckling bonhomie that recalls the original Star Wars films. The screening is a benefit for Equality Now, which works to end violence and discrimination against females around the world. (K.J.)
