Friday 23 July 2004, by Webmaster

Two of the highly anticipated films of Universal’s 2005 slate have got to be The Rock starrer Spy Hunter based on the popular Midway video game and Serenity based on the television series "Firefly" which attracted a cult following and has become a best-selling DVD with a worldwide fanbase and RopeofSilicon.com has your first look at the covers of two of the sell sheets for the films, which are due out next year.

Both of the images can be seen in all their glory at the end of this article.

Spy Hunter will star The Rock as Secret Agent Alec Sects in the high-octane espionage action-adventure movie based on the popular video game Spy Hunter by Midway Home Entertainment Inc., which will also be developing an innovative Spy Hunter 3 game for multiple platforms in 2005. The film will boast the G-6155 Interceptor - a high speed, high-tech counterintelligence vehicle that can transform into a speedboat, a turbo Jet Ski, a motorcycle and much, much more. Spy Hunter will be directed by John Woo and is expecting a Summer 2005 release.

As for Serenity, "Firefly" fans the world-round will get a look at an original sci-fi adventure based on the acclaimed "Firefly" series, in which a small band of galactic outcasts 500 years in the future eke out a living pulling off small crimes and transports-for-hire aboard their ship, Serenity. When they take on two new passengers, they find themselves at the center of a deadly hunt that pits Serenity against the greatest forces in the galaxy. Joss Whedon, the AcademyŽ and Emmy-nominated writer/director of the worldwide television phenomena "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" and "Angel", makes his feature film directorial debut with the futuristic action-adventure. Just like Spy Hunter an innovative action-adventure video game, and an exciting multi-titled publishing program will expand the Serenity universe.

The film centers around Captain Malcolm Reynolds, a hardened veteran (on the losing side) of a galactic civil war, who now ekes out a living pulling off small crimes and transport-for-hire aboard his ship, "Serenity." He leads a small, eclectic crew who are the closest thing he has left to family — squabbling, insubordinate and undyingly loyal.

When Mal takes on two new passengers — a young doctor and his unstable, telepathic sister — he gets much more than he bargained for. The pair are fugitives from the coalition dominating the universe, who will stop at nothing to reclaim the girl. The crew that was once used to skimming the outskirts of the galaxy unnoticed find themselves caught between the unstoppable military force of the Universal Alliance and the horrific, cannibalistic fury of the Reavers, savages who roam the very edge of space. Hunted by vastly different enemies, they begin to discover that the greatest danger to them may be on board "Serenity" herself.

The show was good, and I’m glad the movie is coming soo. The cast is great. But couldn’t Joss have waited to do the show until at least Buffy was finished? With three shows on the air, both Angel & Buffy suffered. Plus, Kaylee is such a rip-off of Willow. With Fred it was okay, but a third Willow?

I trust Joss and his decisions in show making. When he makes a show I believe that it will be good untill proven wrong.I don’t agree with Kylee being another Willow. Some of Kaylee’s traits may resemble that of Willow’s but she is a different character.
