Seven new movies lead Oct. 1st, 2005 weekend entertainment (serenity mention)

Tune in to Channel 10 at 5 p.m. today to catch What’s on editor Robin Swartz offering ideas for weekend entertainment, including:

— Seven new movies reach local screens. Among them: David Cronenberg’s thriller "A History of Violence," "Broken Flowers" starring Bill Murray and "Serenity," which continues the storyline set out in the now-canceled sci-fi series "Firefly."

— The Moutin Reunion Quartet brings jazz with a French twist to the Creole Gallery at 7:30 p.m. today; tickets are $18.

— On Saturday, the Meridian Historical Village and Nokomis Learning Center on Marsh Road in Okemos host the Meridian Heritage Festival. There will be pioneer exhibits, demonstrations, dancing, food, music and more. It’s from 11:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. It’s free.
