Exclusive: The New Kitty Pryde

Plus, X3 crew additions and trailer buzz.

July 27, 2005 - IGN FilmForce has learned that the role of Kitty Pryde in X-Men 3 will be played by fifteen-year-old actress Ellen Page (a.k.a. Ellen Philpotts-Page). Her credits include Hard Candy and the TV series Trailer Park Boys. Click here for more about Ms. Page. A photo of her can be seen below.

The part of Warren "Angel" Worthington’s father has not yet been cast but is down to a few actors, while Daniel Cudmore will reprise his role as Colossus in X3. And, yes, Alan Cumming’s Nightcrawler will definitely not return.

In other news, XMenFilms.net reports that X3 has added several key crew members, beginning with editor Mark Helfrich (Red Dragon, Predator).

"Yes, I will be editing X3, as I have all of Brett Ratner’s films," Helfrich advised XMF, adding "this project will have 3 editors. Academy Award nominee Mark Goldblatt A.C.E. and Julia Wong will be editing with me." Goldblatt also directed 1989’s The Punisher.

XMF also lists the following people as having joined the crew: costume designer Lisa Tomczeszyn, special effects director Mike Vézina, 2nd unit director Simon Crane, director of photography 2nd unit/visual effects Jonathan Taylor, first assistant director - 2nd Unit Terry Madden and storyboard artist Collin Grant. Many of them are veterans of other comic book films.

Finally, Superhero Hype reports that recent photography done in San Francisco and Alcatraz Island was for the X3 trailer, which SHH adds will debut in December.

X-Men 3 begins filming next week in Vancouver, under the direction of Brett Ratner. 20th Century Fox has the flick set for a May 26, 2006 release.
