Thor

The case for him: A former member of the Avengers, Thor is the physical embodiment of the Norse God of Thunder. He has super-strength, the ability to control the weather and can fly via the use of his mystic hammer Mjolnir. When he taps his hammer to the ground, he reverts to his mortal guise of Dr. Donald Blake. Thor inexplicably has a tendency to speak in ’Olde English’ even though he’s of Nordic descent. - Elliott Serrano, RedEye’s "Geek To Me" columnist

Real name: Donald Blake

First appearance: 1962

Publisher: Marvel

Buffy the Vampire Slayer

The case for her: The leader of the Slayer Army, Buffy possesses superior strength and speed along with the ability to quickly recover from injury. She kills vampires with a wooden stake that she affectionately nicknamed ’Mr. Pointy.’ Buffy Summers is referred to as ’The Chosen One’ as she is instilled with the powers of the Slayer, an embodiment of dark powers created to combat evil. She has a tendency to have romantic relationships end with paramour either leaving, getting killed or turning into her mortal enemy. - Elliott Serrano, RedEye’s "Geek To Me" columnist

Real name: Buffy Summers

First appearance: 1992 Publisher: Dark Horse Comics
