The Rumor Mill Spits Out a BUFFY Verdict

Wednesday 22 January 2003, by Webmaster

A supposed informant from UPN has written in to clue us in on the fate of BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER. Also, he says one cast member might be jumping ship to ANGEL, and another promising bit of celluloid rumor.

’BeardedAvenger’ wrote in with these rumors:

I work in the programming dept of an UPN affiliate- nope, I have no pull anywhere - and I know TV isn’t usually your forte but I have something that’s related to the tube but going elsewhere.

You can expect an announcement in the next couple of weeks, but Joss Whedon’s "Buffy, The Vampire Slayer" is no more. Everyone thought it’s time was up, and Sarah Michelle Gellar has her sights set on a film career too much.

BUT...there is hope left for fans of the series.

Some of the supporting cast, notably Nicky Brendon and Alyson Hannigan, are still enjoying playing their characters - and in addition to the fact Nicky is in talks to join WB’s "Angel" - they’re ironing out a deal that would see a (one off) "Buffy" feature film happen for Christmas 2004. Now, it’s early days and we’ve been told very little but the deal is that the entire cast - and some old faces like Seth, Eliza and Marc - will unite for a $150 million dollar spin-off feature, to be directed by Whedon, and make up for the series ending They hope to do for Buffy fans, what they did for "Trekkies" and make a successfull film franchise. It was the only way they could get Sarah to play Buffy again. On the big screen.

One possibility - which may or may not happen - is a story which involves Sunnydale beint demolished by a vampire hourde, killing some of the faces. In order to ammend things, Buffy has to trip back a few hours and stop the scoundrels before they cause the damage.

Anyway, all a loooooooooooong way off...so don’t get too excited...but buffy fans seem so saddened that it’s ending on message boards, so wanted to give them a ray of hope...

P.S - UPN have passed on "Firefly", but I hear another network may be interested. Good luck to the fans on that one.
