The Space Cowboys - Buffy creator’s action winner Serenity ***** 15 best rental

Star Trek meets Rawhide sounds a strange mixture, but this is an excellent movie - aWestern in space.

Joss Whedon, creator of Buffy The Vampire Slayer, resurrects his short-lived sci-fi television series Firefly as this standalone feature film, set in a dark, foreboding 26th century. Buffy fans will enjoy the witty dialogue, strong action and an emotional core which made this one of the best releases last year.

This will be huge in the rental market where Firefly has already been a massive hit.

Captain Malcolm Reynolds (Nathan Fillion) ekes out a meagre living carrying out transport-for-hire aboard his ship Serenity.

Rejecting the rule of order established by the all-powerful Universal Alliance, Mal survives in the outlands by bending the law, and occasionally smashing it to smithereens.

He is aided and abetted by a loyal crew - feisty and opinionated second-in-command Zoe (Gina Torres), her pilot husband Wash (Alan Tudyk), muscle-bound brute Jayne (Adam Baldwin) and spunky mechanic Kaylee (Jewel Staite).

When Reynolds takes on two new passengers - a young doctor (Sean Maher) and his telepathic sister River (Summer Glau) - he suddenly finds himself caught between the Universal Alliance and cannibalistic savages known as the Reavers.

DVD Extras: Deleted and extended scenes with commentary, out-takes.

Also available to buy DVD 19.99/UMD 19.99.
