Buffy The Vampire Slayer

In the Buffy The British don’t like lesbians. Well, that’s not true, but they don’t like two fictional lesbians who are very dear to gay Americans’ hearts. Dish is speaking of Willow (ALYSON HANNIGAN), the lesbian witch from "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" who hooked up with fellow lesbian witch Tara (AMBER BENSON) and later with slayer Kennedy (IYARI LIMON) on the show. BBC news reports that the British Broadcasting Standards Commission admonished the show for "Buffy’s" lesbian characters and the program’s violence. Old Buffy shows (but new to the BBC) air there on Channel 2 at 6 :45 p.m., a time when British children are still firmly ensconced in front of the telly, if they’re anything like their counterparts across the pond.

The network claimed that the violence was "cartoon-like," which it is. While the BBC is no stranger to gay characters, BBSC members have said the show’s violence, an attempted rape scene, and focus on homosexuality make it more realistic than fantasy-like.
