At the conclusion of “Shells,” we’re shown a montage that’s a continuation of the “Fred leaving home” opening of “A Hole in the World.” To the background accompaniment of Kim Richey’s "A Place Called Home," it’s wordless and consists of Fred hugging her mom, getting into the station wagon, and driving away, conspicuously happy at the unknown prospect before her at her destination, Los Angeles.
