D.B. Woodside - "Buffy" Tv Series - Ign.com Interview

Friday 17 August 2007, by Webmaster

IGN TV: Now you have achieved something really cool this year, which is your own Buffy action figure is coming out. What’s that like to see?

Woodside: You’re the first to tell me this!

IGN TV: Oh really?

Woodside: Yeah!

IGN TV: Well, I’ve seen pictures. The Principal Wood action figure is coming out.

Woodside: Fantastic! I think that’s great. I want to take a look at them now! I gotta check it out. That sounds great. I didn’t know about that!

IGN TV: Well, I’m glad to be able to tell you! It’s coming out sometime by fall I think.

Woodside: Nice! I’ll check it out. Thanks very much!

IGN TV: You didn’t know you were getting your own yet, but I assume it would be great, since growing up, we all played with action figures…

Woodside: Yeah, that’s great! I hope some little boy is playing with my action figure, you know? Why not?

IGN TV: Buffy obviously continues to have a very intense following. Do you still hear from fans of that show?

Woodside: I do, and I gotta tell you that that show is by far one of my favorites. I miss that show so much. I miss the people. Sarah [Michelle Gellar] was one of my favorite people and I loved working with her, and of course the absolutely drop dead gorgeous Eliza [Dushku], and James [Marsters]. I mean, we just had the best time working on that show and I just had so much fun with those actors. Joss [Whedon] was so good to me. I love that man! If there’s anything he ever needs, I’ll be there for him in a heartbeat. I love that man. He’s fantastic.

IGN TV: On the finale, you had one of the best fake out, non-deaths I’ve ever seen on TV. It worked so well; people I was watching it with were going "Aww!!" until you spoke.

Woodside: It’s a funny little short story. When we were filming that, Joss directed that episode, and he came over and he said, "You know something. I’m going to be really honest with you. I had a really hard time with your character because I kept going back and forth between ’He dies, no he doesn’t die… he dies… no, he doesn’t die.’" And he says, "You know what man, I just like your character too much. I can’t kill him off!" I said, "That works for me, Joss! I’m glad you like the guy so much." So he kind of wanted to make sure that Principal Robin Wood is around, hopefully for future shows, or a future movie, hopefully.

IGN TV: Do you think Wood is out there with Faith somewhere?

Woodside: Absolutely! Eliza and I have talked about this. Robin Wood and Faith are together out there in the world, probably fighting all the time with each other, as well as fighting vampires and demons.

Viva Laughlin premieres Thursday, October 18th at 10:00 pm ET/PT on CBS.
