Firefly - "Serenity" Movie - Metronews.ca Review

Plot wise, there’s not a lot happening in Joss Whedon’s Serenity that departs from venerable sci-fi convention; a bunch of rebels take on a despotic galactic empire against considerable odds, aided by the physical and psychic gifts of one of their crew. Whedon’s movie is basically a moody Star Wars with Han Solo, not Luke, in the hero’s chair.

Actor Nathan Fillion’s wardrobe even recalls Han’s space age army surplus look. Whedon’s strengths are elaborating on the interesting, provocative ideas buried in sci-fi’s loaded baggage; that, and writing dialogue full of surprising flashes of wit and wryness.

Comes with an introduction and commentary track by Whedon, and various featurettes that tribute the fans of TV’s Firefly whose enthusiasm made the film happen.
